This is poke weed, a pot herb, that grows all over the place in our area. We eat it just like cooked spinach. Free food that is packed full of nutrition!
There's an old, old song that Elvis did called "Poke Salad Annie". I never new what a "poke salad" was, but now...I realize that I have some in my yard! Who would have thought?!

I love free food too. I've been collecting young curly dock to see how it fits into our diet. And dandylions, and purslane, and stinging nettle.
